QuantumDiamonds GmbH Launches and Joins Intel® Ignite’s Sixth Cohort for Early-Stage Deep Tech Startups

QuantumDiamonds GmbH, founded by Kevin Berghoff and Dr. Fleming Bruckmaier, is proud to announce its official launch and selection to join Intel Ignite’s prestigious sixth cohort in Europe.

The journey of Quantum Diamonds began with Ph.D. research in quantum sensing by Dr. Fleming Bruckmaier at Professor Dominik Bucher’s Lab at TU Munich, one of the leading quantum sensing research groups globally. Fleming’s research initially focused on the application of quantum sensing for chemical analysis, revealing broader potential in semiconductor manufacturing, material sciences, and biomedical sciences.

The commercialization exploration took shape at UnternehmerTUM, an ideation workshop bridging business and technology. It was here that Fleming met Kevin Berghoff, QuantumDiamonds GmbH's CEO. Kevin, previously with McKinsey & Company, pursuing his Ph.D. in entrepreneurship, shared Fleming’s vision for quantum sensing’s immense commercial applications.

Their collaboration resulted in an innovative business concept with unique selling points and robust economic prospects. Supported by the EXIST Gründerstipendium, a grant for startups in Germany, QuantumDiamonds GmbH embarked on a journey to explore the technology's use cases with a focus on semiconductor manufacturing. This initial focus aimed to address industry challenges such as heterogeneous integration, advanced packaging, backside power routing, and the use of wide band-gap materials, particularly in electrical failure analysis.

The startup’s validation phase included successful tests with leading Integrated Device Manufacturers (IDMs), confirming the viability of QuantumDiamonds’ quantum sensing solution.

“We are excited to join Intel Ignite’s sixth cohort and to accelerate our growth alongside some of Europe’s most innovative startups,” said Kevin Berghoff, CEO of QuantumDiamonds GmbH. “Our journey from academic research to commercialization underscores our commitment to revolutionizing semiconductor quality control with quantum sensing technology.”

Intel Ignite’s sixth cohort in Europe, based in Munich, attracted nearly 300 applicants from across the continent. QuantumDiamonds GmbH, along with nine other startups, was selected for the intensive 12-week program starting on November 6th. These startups, representing a diverse range of technologies including AI, ML, and quantum technologies, will benefit from Intel Ignite’s mentorship and support to achieve significant strategic impact and accelerate their path to market.
